Ah yes, working together...it's such a chore! ;)

Balancing the needs of different expectations is always a challenge -- the ideal is certainly for everybody to know as much as possible about the other points of view!

Good article! I think it's important to highlight the differences between SEO and Usability/Accessibility, but also understand the importance of both when designing websites. I think it's important to have SEO Specialists, Designers and Usability Specialists working together, but unfortunately that's easier said than done ;-)

The title of the article is really positioned pointedly at people who contact me looking for SEO work -- but your point is taken. In general, a site constructed by an SEO specialist may not have any benefits worth mentioning for the disabled, whereas a site constructed by an accessibility professional will probably offer significant benefit for search engines. I would not, however, say that the site is search engine 'optimized,' as that is truly a different art.

I think a headline "SEO is not Accessibility" would be more appropriate. It is hard to imagine a site that is well-designed for accessibility which is not automatically more SEO-optimized than the average site, while the converse is another story.

And all of you without mothers who check in on you and still try to give a best foot forward,(and maybe the occasional foot on the backside) please stand up or approximate such a position, to the best of your abilities.
