Google Site Links for “Joe Dolson”

This is just cool:

Joe Dolson Sitelinks

Sitelinks” are additional links Google generates from the contents of a site in order to help users navigate your site — they provide these links in their search results for selected terms. Most sites don’t have site links, so I’m finding it pretty cool to notice them for myself!

If you can’t see the image, the current Sitelinks for this site are:

On the whole, I’m pretty pleased with the selection chosen here. They’ve pretty well pinned down the key areas of the site: web design, web accessibility, search marketing, and my writing on these topics. Everything is reasonably represented. Perhaps, in my forthcoming site redesign (don’t keep a look out; it’s not going to be that soon,) I’ll make a point to better promote these specific areas of the site.

Google Toolbar ties to the Windows Accessibility API

Quietly released on the Saturday before Christmas, (what, are they trying to hide this news?) Google announced that their latest Toolbar release supports the Windows Accessibility API.

This is (obviously) a Windows-specific release, and even further, it’s just an Internet Explorer release. However, it’s definitely a step in the right direction! I was particularly glad to see the comment:

Version 5 comes as a part of our ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility in our client-side and web applications, which is a matter I hardly need to mention is very important. Jonas Klink, Software Engineer, Accessibility

(Emphasis added.)

Now, as many have commented, the accessibility level of much of Google’s code is atrocious. I like the idea that Google is actively invested in improving the accessibility of their products; but I have yet to see any serious evidence of this effort!

Still, in the holiday spirit, I will raise a glass to Google to encourage their accessibility efforts. (And if, as a side effect, I end up a little bit drunker, I will accept that.) ;)

Just found this interesting…

Always interesting to suddenly see somebody you know popping up on the official Google blogs! Recently:

  • Nick Weininger – “Better Flight Stats Results” (Friend from college.)
  • John Mueller – “FYI On Google Toolbar’s Latest Features” (Friend from Cre8asite Forums)

Nick, I know, has been working at Google for a couple years (and I haven’t seen him since he left the Twin Cities for grad school.) John was recently hired away from his own company, SOFTplus, best known in webmaster circles for Gsite Crawler, a piece of software for generating Sitemap.xml files.

Commenting on the actual content of the posts, I was interested to see that Google is adding flight delay information on flight stats searches. Yet another reason to never leave Google….

John’s post provides a great overview of new features in Google’s new Toolbar. Which I don’t use, so I can’t really say that I cared that much. Eh, it’s not about the content, right?
