Download My Calendar Version 1.9.0
Note for upgraders: During the automatic upgrade process, My Calendar makes a copy of your stylesheet and re-installs it in place of the copy in the package. However, if you are uploading the plug-in manually, this process will not happen. You should either move your current stylesheet into a custom styles folder or choose not to upload that stylesheet in order to retain your styles.
There has been a problem with My Calendar upgrading settings properly in this update — if you’re finding major problems after upgrading, please check your settings; you may need to reset a number of them. (This is the reason I haven’t released officially yet.)
In point of fact, My Calendar version 1.9 is ready to go. It’s packaged up, ready to be shipped out. (Well, promoted to the subversion repository. Whatever.)
However, I’m not ready to launch it yet — and this is just because I’ve been very short of time recently, and I don’t anticipate this changing soon. I don’t believe that there are any major bugs in the release — I’m sure there are small ones, despite the time I’ve spent on testing, but probably nothing earth-shattering. However, I have to be realistic — I don’t know this for sure. And because of that, I need to delay the full launch. This isn’t because I’m worried about the possibility of problems, particularly. Rather, it’s because on the off-hand chance that there are problems, I simply don’t have the time right now to be able to deal with them responsibly.
That’s a worrying position – if I launch, and there’s a major problem, I may not be able to fix it promptly. No matter how confident I am in the preparation of this version, that’s clearly grounds to delay. Unfortunately, I’ve been delaying for a long time; partially because I keep adding new features, and partially because I’ve been too busy for a while.
So I’m making this available here, now — version 1.9.0 can be downloaded now. I’m launching it here, instead of through the WordPress repository, because I know that many, many fewer people will get a hold of it here. This means fewer potential problems, and it’s much more likely I’ll be able to deal with any problems responsibly.

; February 14, 2012 at 6:10 pmHi,
Its a great plugin, thanks!
I would really appreciate that you add to the mini calendar the category name on the days where there is an event.
The page: http://www.polepgl.koumbit.org/?yr=2012&month=02&dy=&cid=mini
Source code:
Source code with category:
If it was there I would be able to put a different color on each event depending of the category.
I tried to figure out, how to add it to my-calendar-output.php, but I’m not good enough in PHP (Hypertext PreProcessing)!
Thanks a lot!

; October 31, 2011 at 7:04 pmI’ve just realised ……. need to add {link_title}
🙂
Sorted! Thanks again for a fantastic plugin.
Donation on it’s way to you, deservedly so.

; October 22, 2011 at 12:51 amPlease advise how can I pass the translated language file to you for the “WP to Twitter” plugin. Your contact us page doesn’t seem to have the contact form. Sorry for posting this here. Thanks. 🙂

; October 20, 2011 at 12:39 pmMy Calendar plugin looks great. Although I do not really need a calendaring plugin right now, but I will definitely come here for this plugin if a future project of mine needs one.
I also love your “WP to Twitter” plugin, and thus have started translating it to the Malay language (the national language of Malaysia). Hope you are OK with this? I need to apologize if this is not related to My Calendar topic here, but I can’t seem to be able to find a contact form in your contact page.
Thanks.

; October 18, 2011 at 3:21 pmLove MyCalendar but would find the RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feature to be much more useful if you could populate it with the next xx days of upcoming events rather than the latest added events. Would be nice if it was an option to do it one way or the other…
I have read through your documentation but do not see any way of doing this…
I’m using version 1.9.2.

; October 12, 2011 at 7:40 pm@Joe, that’s probably it. Thanks!

; October 12, 2011 at 7:08 pm@Tim OK – I see the problem. Or, at least, part of the problem…I didn’t read your previous message carefully enough, and didn’t see that you’d said “slashes” — the calendar should not be entering slashes for the date. The only way I could see that happening would be if some other plug-in was also using the same jQuery plug-in calendar — I’m using a customized version, so if some other WordPress plug-in is calling the script first, then My Calendar would be using the wrong script. I can fix this in the future, but do you have any other plug-ins running which have a similar calendar pop-up?
Tim
; October 12, 2011 at 6:15 pm@Joe, the event admin page is requiring a format with dashes as the separator.
Joe Dolson
; October 12, 2011 at 5:33 pm@Steve The template tag I think you’re looking for is {details} — that produces a link to the event details page. {link_title} and {link} produce a link to whatever URL (Uniform Resource Locator) you’ve entered for the event in the “Event URL” field.

; October 12, 2011 at 4:55 pmHi Joe,
I haven’t been able to get event titles in either the My Calendar: Upcoming Events widget or on a page using [my_calendar_upcoming] to link to the event details page. I’ve pored over the plugin help, as well as the Users Guide PDF (Portable Document Format), to no avail. The {link_title} short code doesn’t produce a link, and the {link} short code produces nothing. Perhaps there’s something simple I’m overlooking or misunderstanding?
My calendar is located on this page: http://www.troop4milford.org/calendar
It has the [my_calendar] short code.
In Calendar Output Settings I have the following:
URL (Uniform Resource Locator) to use for event details display: http://www.troop4milford.org/calendar
Event title template: {time} {title}
Event details link: {title}
Event URL link text: {title}
Show link to single-event details: checked
The My Calendar: Upcoming Events widget is on this page:
http://www.troop4milford.org
Its template is: {date} – {link_title} {time}
The [my_calendar_upcoming] short code is on this page:
http://www.troop4milford.org/upcoming-events
The full short code on this page is: [my_calendar_upcoming before=”7″ after=”90″ type=”day” fallback=”No scheduled events in the next three months” category=”General” template=”{link_title} {date}” order=”asc” skip=”0″]
WordPress version: 3.2.1
My Calendar plugin version: 1.9.2

; October 12, 2011 at 4:40 pm@Tim Yes, it does. Do you have a question?
Tim
; October 10, 2011 at 6:47 pmWhen I create an event, the pop-up calendar for the date (start and end) enters the date in dd/mm/yyyy format.

; September 13, 2011 at 12:54 pm@ Joe – we did the update and it looks good so far. the only thing I’ve noticed is when I try to change something on the Settings, Calendar Output Settings – the changes do not take. I hit save for that section, it looks like its working, then it comes back up with those changes not showing up. Specifically the hide icons and event scheduling options. Any thoughts? I really like the update though. Thanks.
Joe Dolson
; September 12, 2011 at 3:39 pm@Julie Yes, that’s what it should mean. It’s worked well in my testing, and the bugs were fairly clear cut, so I reasonably expect it to work in general.
Julie
; September 12, 2011 at 11:34 am@ Joe – does that mean that the settings should stay as they are when we update to 1.9.0.
Joe Dolson
; September 12, 2011 at 8:49 amVersion 1.9.0 was updated today; this should fix the bug with updating settings, as well as a number of other bugs in this version.
@Laura You need to unzip the my-calendar.zip package, then you can upload your files overwriting the previous documents. Be careful not to overwrite customized documents, such as stylesheets (contained in my-calendar/styles).
Laura Davies
; September 8, 2011 at 6:17 pmWhen I manually upload the my-calendar zip for the new version, it won’t let me since the directory already exists. How do I do a manual update?
Joe Dolson
; September 8, 2011 at 11:31 am@Julie That’s too bad. Custom styling: if this upgrade was available from WordPress.org, it would be automatic, but since it’s not, you’ll have to take a couple of steps. You can read the notes above (blue box at the top of the page) to see how to preserve your styles in this upgrade. Events will be retained. There have been some problems with retention of settings when upgrading to 1.9 (this is why it isn’t released!) — so you should consider making note of your current settings so that you can go through and check them after upgrading. If you’re not comfortable with this, I would recommend waiting a little while – I’m hoping to get this settings update problem resolved within the week, but it’s been an aggravating issue.
Julie
; September 8, 2011 at 11:19 am@Joe Our IT won’t agree to the testing site so I’m going to have try another way to do this. A question first: I’ve made some custom styling and have a lot of events, will I lose the styling and/or all the events when updating to 1.9?
Julie
; September 8, 2011 at 11:05 am@Joe Ok, we’ll try that. Thanks.
Joe Dolson
; September 8, 2011 at 10:56 am@Julie No, that won’t work – plug-ins aren’t isolated entirely to a single site within a network, they’re shared across the network, even when only activated in a single site. If you need to experiment thoroughly before moving to the new version, your best option is probably to have a completely separate installation of WordPress for testing. (This is something I do a lot; a secondary installation with the same theme, same plug-ins, settings, etc. It’s a good way to test things in a restricted way.)
Julie
; September 8, 2011 at 10:52 am@ Joe I’m running a multi-site but only have My Calendar activated on one site, not the network. I tried to activate this version on a different site – for testing. Will that not work? I’d really like to test it with everything else we’re running before fully replacing the 1.8.9 version. Is that possible?
Joe Dolson
; September 8, 2011 at 10:37 am@Julie You can’t simultaneously run two installations of My Calendar – have you deactivated the old version?
Julie
; September 8, 2011 at 10:33 amI get the following when trying to activate this version.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare jd_show_support_box() in /var/www/wp-content/plugins/my-calendar-2/my-calendar.php on line 117
Thoughts? Thanks.
Joe Dolson
; September 5, 2011 at 2:12 pmThanks for mentioning that, Veronika – looks like it was a conflict caused by another plug-in I’d recently installed. Should be fine now.

; August 20, 2011 at 7:24 pmYou can use multiple calendars by dividing either by category or by location and using the associated short codes. If you want all categories and all locations available in different calendars, that could get tricky, although you’d still be able to accomplish it using WordPress in multi-user configuration. As to .ics; each event can be individually exported to iCal, as can the current month’s events, but that’s all that’s available for export.

; August 20, 2011 at 7:04 pmHi, Great calendar plugin. I’m almost convinced this is the one plugin to use for my calendaring needs since it offers every feature I need, except one. I’m looking for the plugin to support multiple calendars that I could show on separate posts with entirely separate events. Wondering if this would be reasonably simple to achieve. I could do myself (know enough PHP (Hypertext PreProcessing) etc) and then contribute back somehow.
Also, one question. Is the calendar exportable to standard .ics file, and if so how (apologies for being slow!). Many thanks!!!
Mike
