Able Player 5.0.0 is now available! For the most part, it’s the same as what I announced last month; with a few additional bug fixes:
- Added a Slovak translation & fixed a bug in the handling of
data-langattributes(courtesy of Radoslav Ďurač), - Added documentation on using Jest with Able Player to run tests.
I also updated the Able Player WordPress plugin to version 2.4.0, with several minor changes:
- Changes the structure of Able Player files, which are now pulled from the NPM registry.
- Adds a feature to automatically convert YouTube Embed blocks to use Able Player.
- Add support to reference videos via URL (Uniform Resource Locator) in the Able Player shortcode.
- Added a new filter –
ableplayer_capabilityto modify who has access to the Able Player plugin settings.

Thanks for this release, Joe! It was a pleasure contributing the Slovak translation, demo, and the language handling fix. For my work in accessibility, Able Player is honestly the best option out there, thorough support for captions, transcripts, sign language, and audio description all in one accessible package. Looking forward to what’s next for the project.
